Frequently Asked Questions

When is the library media center open?

The library media center is open from 7:10 a.m. to 3:30 M-F.

Do I need a pass to use the library?

Students need a pass during class time.  Each student’s name must be on the pass along with the teacher’s name, signature, date, and time.  Students do not need a pass before, after school or during lunch.  If you are disruptive to other students, you will be asked to leave.

Be courteous when you arrive and when you leave.  Do not disturb others.  Push your chair in when you leave, pick up any paper or trash.  Also obey all the school and library rules.

How can I check out a book from the library?

Students will need their ID card to check out a book.  Please give your ID to the person at the circulation desk when you are ready to check out.  Students may check out up to three books.  If you have an overdue book you may not check out a book.  You are discouraged from checking out materials for others.  Remember that you are ultimately responsible for anything checked out on your card.  Books can be checked  out for three weeks.

What if I don’t have an ID card?

If you do not have an ID, you must purchase a temporary ID for $1.00.  If you have lost your ID, a replacement ID is $5.00.  You must have the money in order to get a temporary or replacement ID.  You can purchase from the library media center.

How do I find a book on the shelf?

Use OPAC to find materials in the library.  Check to see if the book is available.  Use the all number to locate the book on the shelf.  If you do not find the book where it is supposed to be, scan the shelf to see if it has been misplaced.  Other students sometimes misfile books, putting them out of call number sequence.  If you still cannot find the book, make sure you’ve copied the call number correctly.  If you still cannot find it, let the librarian know it is missing.

Where do I return books?

Books can be returned at the circulation desk.

What if my book is lost or overdue?

Please return what you have borrowed so that other students may have the pleasure of reading that book.  Overdue fines for books are 5 cents every school day with a $2.00 maximum fine for each book.  If you have an overdue book you will not be able to check out another one until it is returned.  If you cannot find your book, look again in your locker, under the bed, in your sister or brother’s room, wherever.  You will be charged for the book unless you return it or replace it.  If the book is damaged and cannot be used, this too must be replaced or paid for.

Can I make photocopies in the library?

There is a coin-operated copier in the library for student use.  Copies are ten cents each.  Change for the copier is available at the circulation desk.

Do I have to pay to print from the computer?

You may print your documents for free, but only one copy.  DO NOT PRINT MORE THAN ONE COPY!  There is a photocopy machine available if you need more.
